Legal Assistance

Universities/colleges may or may not have legal services available for students. Here are some alternatives available, as there are a host of legal aid/assistance sites available either free, low cost or Pro Bono.

The federal Legal Services Corporation www.lsc.gov , provides a nationwide Legal Assistance Locator along with programs currently available through LSC. 

www.legalhelpwebsite.com/ , has legal advisors prepared to answer questions in an outline format.

www.getlegal.com , offers an Attorney Locator, as well as a Legal Information Center and a Legal Help, Tools and Resources link(s).

www.Attorneylink.us - offers a free attorney locator (nationwide), with free evaluation and consultation services.

LawHelp.org at www.lawhelp.org , provides low and moderate income people with assistance in finding free legal aid programs in their own communities.  Free legal aid referrals and information can be accessed by using the State List function.  You will be directed to appropriate providers in your area.

The American Bar Association at www.abanet.org/legalservices/findlegalhelp/home.cfm , provides a Consumers Guide to Legal Help with state by state assistance in finding an attorney or securing legal information.  In addition to the Free Legal Help link, Court Information, Self Help, and Trouble With a Lawyer may be especially useful for former prisoners.

Through www.ptla.org/services.htm , a directory of organizations which provide free legal assistance to eligible clients can be accessed.

In Michigan: www.AffordableHelp.org offers free legal assistance in matters related to child custody/concerned citizens looking for guidance.

www.michiganlegalaid.org , provides assistance to low income residents with legal issues. There is an Attorney and Organization/Service finder organized by zip code, along with a search engine for Published Literature/Documents on a subject,  and an Automated MI. Court Forms function available.
